It is difficult to choose from among the works of Dessì, there are so many themes of great relevance to be found in his works.

A profound and multi-faceted writer, Dessì tells of Sardinia, he tells of the Continent, he speaks of exchanges and relationships between the two distinct geographic conditions to then delve into the specific lifestyle of the island.

When writing of Sardinia and Villacidro, the writer sinks his focus into the most honest of sentiments, in identity and belonging. From here, the many and profound considerations regarding the deep tie the Sardinians have to their land, about the sense of Time in Sardinia, the relationship between Sardinians and their oppressors, production and commercial balance of the island, about traditions, places, social turmoil, war and change.

When selecting the passages, we thought to offer space and visibility to those works by Giuseppe Dessì that express his talent as narrator, his thoughts and philosophy about these places in the broadest and most effective manner. Therefore, we tried to find a balance between the most emblematic of excerpts among his better works as well as those that are lesser known – such as his essays about Sardinia, but that are just as significant.

The voyage into this audio form of his literary achievements unwinds among his best known novels: Paese d’Ombre (Town of Shadows), Il Disertore (The Deserter) and Michele Boschino, those that are lesser known but equally as important: his first novel, San Silvano, Introduzione alla vita di Giacomo Scarbo (Introduction to the Life of Giacomo Scarbo) and the unfinished La Scelta (The Choice) along with several excerpts of his essays: Un pezzo di Luna (A Slice of the Moon), Sardegna una civiltà di pietra (Sardinia, a Stone Civilization).
