Villacidro

Villacidro is a town located between the Campidano plain and the Linas mountain range. It stands at an elevation of 267 metres a.s.l. and thanks to this position, it is filled with panoramic points that overlook the surrounding plains like authentic terraces.

Its territory, one of the most characteristic of Sardinia, holds much interest from geological, faunistic, floral and historical-mining viewpoints. We mention some geological peculiarities such as the presence of crystalline schists dating back to the Paleozoic era and the pink granite that dominates the entire landscape with peaks that reach the height of 1,136 metres a.s.l. at Punta Acqua Zinnigas. Many gullies are filled with streams that are the sources of some of the tallest and most important waterfalls of the island such as Sa Spendula and the falls of Piscin’Irgas and Muru Mannu (the tallest of all), which measures a drop of 72 metres.

The town is very proud of its long history, as can be seen by many sites and monuments. It is famous for being the birthplace of writer Giuseppe Dessì to whom it has been dedicating a National Literature Award for over 20 years.

Villacidro is also famous for its agriculture: citrus fruits, cherries, peaches and oil are among the main products of the town’s economy along with meats, cold cuts, cheeses and the traditional handcrafted works.
